Pumpkin Time, Everybody Say Cheese

10 hand carved pumpkins this year, and if that's not impressive, 8 of the 10 were grown in our own garden. Because of so many other Halloween decorations absorbing our time this year, we had to keep the designs simple. Enjoy the photo and have a safe and happy Halloween....

Cemetery Gates

It's Halloween and what better way to celebrate then to transform your home into a creepy place where things go bump in the night. I've always wanted to turn my front yard into a cemetery so this year I collected up some supplies and made it happen. All of my headstones are handmade from solid wood that I grabbed from the wood pile. Most of the slabs are solid oak remains of an old coffee table. A few alterations with a jigsaw and 2 cans of marble paint got me started. I then broke out some stencil lettering, the model car paint, and a small brush. All of the detail is hand painted. These things will last for years, or until someone steals them. After securing them into the ground with 3/8 steel rods, I added some fake moss, spider webbing, dirt from the yard, and of course some scattered bones. Tomorrow I'll be adding some lighting and 10 carved pumpkins to make it all come alive at night and I'll even see about taking a long exposure in the dark.

San Diego Sunrise

This morning before leaving for work, I was warmly greeted by an amazing sunrise. Looking east from my back patio, this was my view of the painted sky.

Photo Holiday

You'd think that with the lack of blogging I've been doing lately, that I was on a break from photography. The truth is, I've been swamped! If I haven't been working my day job, I've been photographing soccer games and birthday parties. It's turning out to be one crazy busy month, but stay tuned as there will be some fantastic Halloween photos coming soon! :)

Redhawks, Raindrops, and a Sunset

This evening after work I was planning to go photograph my nephew during his football game, but the threat of rain made me postpone for a couple of weeks. He's a varsity running-back for the Mountain Empire Redhawks and doing very well this season.

So with no football, I planned to just head home but as I left work I noticed a rather impressive sunset so I detoured about a mile over to the coast and got the camera out. The setting sun was absolutely brilliant against the broken clouds and distant rain. Luckily, I was able to get off a couple of shots before the rain caught up to me, forcing me to retreat back into the car as my particular equipment just isn't waterproof and the last thing I want is a big ol' splotch of water on my L-series lens.
